Version 2 questions

Hi,

I'm working on testing out V2 and have some questions:

1. In which scenarios do I need to add these: fatherId, motherId, spouseIds, siblingIds, childIds. Shouldn't siblings and children be inferred from the motherid, and fatherid?

I tried adding sibling ids to my sample tree and the whole tree vanished.

2. Why do some nodes not appear if you only specify one parent? https://code.balkan.app/simpsons-1#JS

3. In regards to the load on demand feature, what should our app send back in repsonse to the requests? Can you expand on that in the documentation?

Hi @rctneil

1. Family Tree JS 2 generates the ids automatically on add. You don't need to add these ids.
2. You haven't shown all needed relations: https://code.balkan.app/family-tree-js-2/simpson#JS
3. You should send the json data in format that is loaded in the tree, as in the examples

It is not needed to specify the connections in all nodes. Depends on the case.

If the child is a child of both parents, you should specify both.
Otherwise you can see the child when you focus on his parent.

I have set Lisa Simpson to ONLY have a mother ID. Bart Simpson has BOTH motherId AND fatherID.

I'd expect the line from the middle of Homer and Marge to go to Bart, but i'd expect a line from Marge directly to Lisa (as she only has the motherId set)

If you'd like to show that Lisa is related to Homer, you can add her as child of both and use another template to show there is a difference between Bart and Lisa

No, I want to be able to show this:

Bart Simpson = Homer Simpson (Father), Marge Simpson (Mother)

Lisa Simpson = Marge Simpson (Mother), NO FATHER

It's just to be able to find out if that CAN be done.

The idea of the product is to show only the children of the focused node.
It is not possible to show all related nodes at once.

With the old Family Tree JS you can see all the children, but cannot see all the parents.

Is there a way to have all Spouses be collapsed by default? and also, can I ahve the tree in read only mode but also allow users to refocus on another node?

Regarding to the second question, users should be able to focus nodes in read only mode. It is a bug that it does not work now.

Hi @ZornitsaPesheva Would it be possible for you to add some hover tooltips for all the new UI buttons?

Eg, the new "focus" button, so when people hover over it they see a small tooltip like "Focus tree on this person"

Just like you get in any browser when you hover an image on a webpage.

Would improve accessibility.

Also, is there a way to stop the nodes from zooming in when they are focused?

Is there a method for Node onClick so I can open a custom dialog box?

If so, is there a way I can focus a specific node programatically? (so i can add a button in my custom dialog to focus the node rather than using the yellow focus node button on the tree itself.

I will continue to list questions, just answer when you can as you continue to develop. It's looking really great so far:

• I see some of the demos show the focused node much larger than others, especially in some of the templates like kitkat. Is there a way to see the actual code changes that were made in that template so I can increase the size of the focused node myself in my own custom template?

• Is there a way to programatically focus a specific node?

• Is there a way to set the default spacing between nodes at a global level so it affects all the spacing equally?

So far my version 2 tree is performing really nicely. I really like the concept of having a "focused" node and everything rearranges around it. It's a different idea from V1 and it's very nice. My demo tree is shown below (ignore the colouring. just playing around!)

In my tree, I do notice that the "expansion" buttons, like "children, parents, siblings" etc, sometimes do not show up. I understand why the people do not show, but it would be nice to have the option to expand them and view them. In my case in the image above, "Jackie Bouvier" has a sibling, it would be nice to be able to see the "sibling" icon so users can know there is a sibling there and can click to view that person.
