Establish a comprehensive roadmap for the project.

It would be valuable to establish a comprehensive roadmap outlining both short-term and long-term goals for this project to provide a clear sense of direction.

Rough short-term roadmap

[Stage 0: legal stuff]

• update in-source copyright headers |DONE|
• basic readme update (to remove/replace information that was specific to the EA repo)

[Stage 1: initial setup]
source control

• add gitignore |DONE|
• add git attributes|DONE|
• add checks for commit message format
• set up ci for build verification
• add checks for commit content (ie formatting of code)
• set up proper branch protection rules
  build system
• add all gplv3 compatible dependencies to the repo
• fix build system to get first working build
• update readme with build instructions

[Stage 2: clean up]

• remove obsolete/unused tools and files
• de-duplicate source files
• remove unnecessary typedefs (such as for bool)
• incorporate cmake into build system (possibly cmake 3.5 to try and generate identical vc6 project files at first)

[Stage 3: upgrades and some easy fixes]

• upgrade to stlport 4.6.2
• upgrade to stlport 5.2.1
• fix alt tab crash
• enable support for all resolutions and aspect ratios
• enable full viewport
• port easy but solid fixes from superhackers
• fix height scaling with wider aspect ratios
• upgrade to dx9

[Stage 4: refactoring]

• remove unused headers
• add transitively included headers
• ...

When I get the chance, I will start making each individual task into its own issue.
