mkdocs: Error reading page 'index.md': No module named 'mkdocstrings_handlers'

mkdocs doesn't seem to work for me:

> mkdocs serve
INFO    -  Building documentation...
INFO    -  Cleaning site directory
ERROR   -  Error reading page 'index.md': No module named 'mkdocstrings_handlers'

This only happens when there is something like ::: tscleaner.SpikeCleaner in the index.md. Otherwise it works fine. I get the same behaviour when I try the package of one of my reviewers, so it seems there is something wrong in my mkdocs installation.

I installed everything as instructed.

Any suggestions? I tried to google the problem but without luck so far.

Ok, I ran through the instructions again and now it works. Not sure what I changed. I think it was pip install mkdocstrings[python] instead of pip install mkdocstrings.
