As I've been using Desktop Buddy I have noticed harsh reactions when unwitting users load the desktop buddy stream starting at 100% volume as the value is local only (to my knowledge.)
That said a default volume level setting could help that significantly or perhaps a global/local toggle for the volume control.
Alternatively having a pop-up opt-in to the entire stream could also help. With an option to enable that functionality perhaps.
