This will require massive changes that will break every plugin integration. Thus, it will not come until after other major changes are completed.

I hacked together MongoDB support a few years ago as the JSON structure can be kept, it's possible this could be implemented upstream (without the reflection hacks etc). I have no idea what the performance implications would be with the current system though.
