How to test Harper in WriterAgent?

I found Harper in a setting but I still don't see lints with familiar Harper messages:

I see lints for some of the same things Harper address but with unfamiliar messages so they must be coming from one of the other backends.

Is there additional setup I'm supposed to do?

Hi, it's highly unlikely to be coming from the other backends which except for Vale need to be installed. If you can give a specific repro, I'll investigate!

FYI, this is the routine which triggers based on provider: https://github.com/KeithCu/writeragent/blob/master/plugin/writer/locale/grammar_work_queue.py#L525

Feel free to put print()s in there or change / comment out code if you want to verify what is happening. We don't display "Harper" in the error message which would be clearer, but I figured people don't want to see it every time.

Also note in your config directory (on my computer it's here: /home/keithcu/.config/libreoffice/4/user/config/) with debug builds you should see a writeragent_debug.log which will give you a lot of information about what's going on.

Turning them all off except for WriterAgent AI Grammar, or both it and Hunspell, doesn't show the Harper errors though:

I'm still looking for the log file. I don't have ~/.config/libreoffice

Try to find that log file on your hard drive, it will be very useful in debug builds, and for errors in release builds. Click on the Edit config file button in the Settings dialog box and that should be the same dir as the log file.

Hmmm, so the code works outside of LibreOffice at least. But for some reason there might be an error. You should see basic status information in the WriterAgent sidebar (when LLM or external grammar checkers are running) do you see anything?

Well Spotlight/Finder searched for ages and didn't find it but your tip helped me find it:

• /Users/hippietrail/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice/4/user/config/writeragent_debug.log

No matches for harper when I search the log.

@hippietrail Great that you found the log file. See if you see any errors in there. Also can you please try opening up the sidebar Window, clicking on the WriterAgent icon and looking for status information when the grammar checker is running that might be useful?

Okay it shows Ready. When you type some words, it should change to show other status information, or errors.

Only errors from something other than Harper. Harper would flag the extra spaces as well.

Thank you for the screenshots. The most important thing is to look for errors. does anything look out of the ordinary in your log file? I'll go through it if you want to upload it. Also regarding the screen, as you type, where it says "Ready" it should show status information during the grammar checker. You'll see mine shows: "Grammar: done 'This is a' len:17 1: issue, 1 sentence 4 ms" Does it ever show anything other than Ready in that control?
