Set a custom global padding

@mwhite05 Is it possible to set one global padding definition? At present it appears if I had 150 instances of a button and wanted to modify the padding, I'd have to select and manually change the padding definition for each instance. Would love to be able to cite the native instance of the button, change its padding and have it affect all other instances. Of course, specific instances where I may want to have a custom button padding, I could use Overrides.

The way I intended this to work is to use the symbol itself as the global setting. This works by looking at the master symbol's total width and height compared to the width and height of the master symbol's "Label" layer. So all you have to do is make your master symbol have the amount of padding you want around the default label and voila - globally applied padding.

The main issue right now would probably be that I don't currently have a way to re-apply the sizing and positioning to each instance if you change the master symbol size later on. This should be relatively simple to solve by having a command that works either across multiple selection or applies to an entire artboard/page/document.

After diving back into my code today to work on the other request you posted I realized that I actually had already made the plugin support multiple selected buttons. While it won't fix the entire document at one time yet, I don't think it would be too difficult to eventually add one or more commands that would select all the properly configured buttons (symbols that reference a master that has all the necessary override layers named properly). Once I have them selected it will be a piece of cake to re-apply the settings to them.

I'll try to find time for this soon.

Commands might be something like:

• Re-apply to Buttons in Document
• Re-apply to Buttons in Current Artboard

(though I'll probably have to come up with shorter names)

I've attached a zip file containing a beta build of 1.5.0. Several new options are available from the plugin menu:

• Update within Selected Groups
• Update within Selected Artboards
• Update within Selected Pages
• Update All Buttons (in entire document)

NOTE: The plugin scans the layers for symbol instances and then checks if their symbol master has the following text layers:

Position-X
Position-Y
Padding-H
Padding-V

If any one of those four layers is missing in the symbol master then it is skipped. This ensures the logic is only applied to layers that you actually want it applied to.

Since you requested the feature I wanted to offer you a chance to provide feedback before this functionality is published as part of the plugin.
