Made it to Admin CMD but still locked

Trying to regain important files on my laptop that was locked out by BitLocker. Ran the USB as directed and made it into a CMD that matches the screenshot in the original article. However, it still says the drive remains locked. Anything else I can try?

What do you mean locked? You need to mount the volume to gain access to the files.

diskpart
list volume
select volume X (use the volume number of the biggest #, this should be your drive)
assign letter=Z
exit

And then from there type Z:\ in CMD and you should be in

Is the decryption key still present in the TPM or do windows ask you for the decryption key at startup?

having the same issue - TPM key is present as i can log into the machine without problems

EDIT:
tried this : #8 (comment) and it worked. But to get it to work you need to log into the computer and have admin access so it's not a useful fix

I get asked for the recovery key on startup, the when asking for more recovery options the exploit in the usb boots the admin CMD as described. I don’t know if the key is still present in the TPM…I’m trying to regain access to my laptop as I don’t have the recovery key.

Anything else I can try?

I think this exploit uses the TPM key to unlock the disk, and since your TPM forgot the key this exploit can't work

It sounds like your WinRE image may not be a trusted measurement in your TPM's PCR, so it's not releasing the key - which means you're not vulnerable to this hack. If you boot into Windows and run "reagentc.exe /disable" then "reagentc.exe /enable" it will register the component in TPM and this hack should then work.

No, because Windows needs to stage the WinRE WIM image stored on your C: drive (which is locked) and then register the new measurements to the TPM chip for Bitlocker.
