Question for bitlocker use

I know someone who uses bitlocker but they removed the pin entry/password entry and decided to go with a "USB Key" meaning the usb would have to be plugged in to bypass bitlocker.

Would this still effect them?

No. The USB acts as additional key material / protector so this won't work.
