navigation is not clear from menus

The sections of the handbook are outlined at the top of the page in menus, but its not clear what order they are to be read in, nor whether these is a one-to-one correspondence between sections and menu items.

They are not meant to be read in any particular order, so that is then OK I think.

What do you mean exactly with that the correspondence between the section and the menu items is not clear? If you click on a particular section, the left navigation bar is automatically updated with the various indicators in that section. If you click on a particular indicator, a more detailed structure is available on the right side bar. Can you explain what part is not clear there? I can then try to see how to perhaps improve it.

If I click on "Open Science Impact Indicator Handbook" at left on the page, I go back to the same page itself. For comparison, the left margin of https://book.the-turing-way.org/ presents a linear list of sections which expands when you click on one of them. The menus at top do hint at an order for reading, but since the material is described as a "handbook", I'd expect a commitment from the online materials to follow the same order as a print edition would (even if there is not a print edition extant at present, and even if the sections can in fact be read in any order). The "table of contents" format used by the Turing Way gives exactly that reassurance to the reader.

The reason why the sections are in the top navigation bar is because that makes it easier to go to different impact sections, instead of having to go through a (possibly lengthy) table of contents on the left. We had that in earlier version of the handbook, but it was more difficult to navigate. The left navigation bar is now relatively readable compared to that earlier version.

We have no intention of having a print edition, because the handbook is not meant to be read cover by cover, but rather for looking up aspects that are of interest in particular cases. The website is more useful for that purpose.
