Settings icon closes automatically and won't stay open

Great script, thank you.

Only issue I have right now is that when I click the gears settings icon on the player, it automatically closes now and it does not stay open, not allowing me to select anything.

One work around is to click the mini player to make it small, then click the mini player again to make it big again, only then can I select the settings icon and it will now stay open to go to advanced options etc.

Running BTTV, FrankerFaceZ, and Ublock Origin Lite Chrome extensions .

Not that big of a deal since I have the work around, but not sure if this is an intended bug or not.

Hi @FrozenCoTTon, thanks for the detailed report and workaround!

This is a known side-effect of how the extension enforces your preferred quality setting. When your tab comes back into the foreground (or at certain other trigger points), the extension briefly opens the Twitch settings menu to check or set the resolution - if it finds the correct quality already set, it closes the menu again. This open-and-close cycle takes roughly 1–3 seconds and is what you're seeing interrupt your manual use of the gear icon.

A few things that may have already improved your situation in recent versions:

v1.2.10 - the extension now skips quality automation entirely while a Twitch ad is playing, which was a common cause of the menu being closed unexpectedly mid-stream.
v1.2.11 / v1.2.12 - further refinements to ad detection (picture-in-picture mode) that reduced false triggers.
Could you check whether the issue still occurs on the latest version? The "settings close immediately when I open them" behaviour should only happen briefly right after the tab regains focus - if you wait a moment before clicking the gear icon it should stay open. If it's closing the menu repeatedly outside of those focus transitions, that would point to a different bug worth investigating.

Also, since you're running BTTV, FrankerFaceZ, and uBlock Origin Lite - compatibility with popular Twitch and general-purpose browser extensions is something I actively aim for, so if the issue persists on the latest version with that combination, that's definitely worth a closer look.
As a longer-term improvement, detecting that the user has manually opened the menu and pausing automation while it's open is something worth adding. I'll track that as a potential enhancement.

I have Twitch Turbo so I never get ads, but right now with simple testing I can tell see that this bug is fixed.

Hi @Punshnut, with StreamSaver 1.2.22 it seems the settings button where it chooses the quality on the Twitch video stays open and doesn't close automatically for some reason. Is this a known bug for this version?

Hi @FrozenCoTTon, thanks for the report! Are you on Windows by any chance? I've found and fixed a race condition where the settings menu could get toggled back open by our own close logic on slower systems - fix is in the next release.

Good news: that behavior is already built in! StreamSaver skips quality enforcement entirely when the tab isn't visible or the window doesn't have focus, and then catches up automatically once you switch back to it. So it should already be doing exactly what you're describing.

If you're seeing quality changes happen while the tab is in the background, that would be a bug worth investigating - could you share a bit more detail?

Which browser and version are you on?
Does it happen on a specific type of stream (live, VOD, ad playback)?
Does it happen immediately when you switch away, or after a longer period in the background?
That would help me reproduce it on my end. Thanks!
