Shortcodes are very "hidden" functionality in nature, from their existence to the attributes they support. They also don't render in the block editor. It's just a worse editor experience all around, and documentation is ESSENTIAL when using shortcodes.
Custom blocks in the Block Editor would be ideal to solve these frustrations.
