The CobolEvaluatableExpressionProvider currently always leaves if the line is a comment - while I see that this would confuse some people it seems also interesting for others (especially if you have "old code" that references other variables commented out).
I therefore suggest an extension setting to toggle this behavior (which would be then checked before testing for a comment line).
