That's a lot of work in order to have a production grade Gitlab instance and to migrate everything there.
But now that we're considering using Dagger that is worth thinking about it in order to prioritize Opensource and self-hosted solutions.

A few things to consider for the Gitlab installation:

• External databases, redis, registry
• Replace Redis with Dragonflydb operator
• S3 bucket (Crossplane definition)
• Use a sub CA issued from our root certificate (refer to the Vault readme)
• Configure tracing and monitoring
• Use the crossplane provider

I started a work with this PR, but it requires too much time to have something production ready.
I decided to go with Github self-hosted runners for now but the discussion is still relevant imho.
