I tried to create a custom theme, but when I placed the json file in the theme directory, and open the application I would get a blank image,

If I deleted it it would go back to normal, my mistake was restarting my pc, anyway now even after I deleted the file from the theme directory I still get the same blank screen, I have uninstalled and installed and it is just that blank screen.

I found the fix, its called wearebothretards! you need to delete it, then, get the latest release instead of reusing the same installer and the It sould work

I was using the latest version when I posted this, and I did re download the installer, because I had deleted it after installing it.

Unless the latest release is not this one https://github.com/Splode/pomotroid/releases (from 3 years ago)

It has been deleted and uninstalled for a while, downloaded the latest version again and it is still broken.
