Objective

Define Thrive's brand tone of voice guidelines to ensure consistent communication across all channels (website, marketing, sales, client communications).

Background

Thrive is an AI/ML agency positioning itself similarly to Robots & Pencils, KPMG advisory. We need a clear, differentiated voice that resonates with enterprise clients while remaining approachable.

Execution Plan

  1. Competitor Tone Analysis
    • Analyze Robots & Pencils brand voice
    • Analyze KPMG, McKinsey, BCG consulting tone
    • Analyze AI/ML agencies (DataRobot, Scale AI, Anthropic)
    • Document patterns: formality level, jargon usage, personality traits
  2. Target Audience Research
    • Define buyer personas (CTOs, VPs of Engineering, Innovation Leaders)
    • Research what tone resonates with enterprise tech buyers
    • Review successful B2B tech brand guidelines (Stripe, Notion, Linear)

Phase 2: Brand Voice Definition

  1. Core Voice Attributes (3-5 traits)
    • Example: Authoritative but not arrogant
    • Example: Technical but accessible
    • Example: Confident but collaborative
  2. Voice Spectrum
    • Formal vs. Casual sliding scale
    • When to be more formal (proposals, enterprise)
    • When to be more casual (blog, social)
  3. Do's and Don'ts
    • Words/phrases to use
    • Words/phrases to avoid
    • Sentence structure guidelines

Phase 3: Practical Application

  1. Channel-Specific Guidelines
    • Website copy
    • Blog posts
    • Social media (LinkedIn)
    • Proposals and RFPs
    • Client communications
  2. Example Rewrite Exercises
    • Take existing Thrive copy
    • Rewrite in new tone
    • Create before/after examples

Phase 4: Documentation

  2. Upload to shared location
  3. Create quick-reference cheat sheet
