Existing Java Implementation

The current app is a Java 17 Swing desktop GUI that wraps Spring Security Crypto 6.3.1:

• Encryption algorithm: Encryptors.delux() → AES-256-GCM
• Key derivation: PBKDF2WithHmacSHA1, 1024 iterations, 256-bit key
• Salt handling: The raw salt string bytes are hex-encoded before being passed to the encryptor (HexFormat.of().formatHex(salt.getBytes()))
• Output format: A hex-encoded blob containing: version byte + random 16-byte IV + GCM ciphertext + 16-byte auth tag
• UI: Salt field, Password field, text input area, Encrypt/Decrypt buttons, read-only result area

What an Electron.js Port Would Require

1. Electron project scaffold (electron/ subdirectory)

• package.json with electron, and dev tooling
• main.js — Electron main process (creates the BrowserWindow)
• index.html + renderer.js — UI equivalent of the Swing form

2. Crypto logic (the hard part)
Node.js has a built-in crypto module with AES-GCM and PBKDF2 support, but to be byte-compatible with Spring Security Crypto's Encryptors.delux(), the JS implementation must replicate the exact binary output format (version marker, IV placement, tag position). Without this, a value encrypted in Java cannot be decrypted in Electron and vice versa.

If cross-platform interoperability is a goal, the implementer needs to study Spring Security Crypto source to replicate the exact framing. This is doable in Node.js crypto but requires precision.

If standalone functionality (JS encrypts/decrypts only within itself) is acceptable, Node.js crypto is straightforward.

3. Salt encoding parity
Must match the Java behaviour: Buffer.from(salt, 'utf8').toString('hex') is the Node.js equivalent of HexFormat.of().formatHex(salt.getBytes()).

4. Build tooling
Electron requires npm install + electron-builder or electron-forge for packaging — separate from Maven.
