This is to counteract the rapid fire shooting:

_One thing I thought of to counter the many-shot rapid fire your non-classic version's player ship has would be to add (on later levels) additional homing mines, say up to six over time and/or let the center gun shoot increasingly rapid shots or even with a different style like, say, a shot which grows more than it presently does/homes in (slightly) on the player's ship to mess with strategies as the game progresses._
