Vlc not detected

Qualcoder won't recognize VLC after my latest PC formating. By consequence, i can't reproduce audio and video. I've re-installed both programs, but to no effect.

For general information: Which version of QualCoder are you using? Is it on Windows 10 or 11?
There are different versions of VLC for Windows. You need to install a 64 bit version.
There are a Windows 64 bit and a Windows ARM 64 bit. Did you try each of them?
I am thinking the Windows 64bit is the correct one.
Also, make sure the install is not a custom install. VLC has to be installed in its usual folders for QualCoder to find it: That is C: Program Files / VideoLAN / VLC

Hi,
I’m having a very similar issue, but on macOS Apple Silicon rather than Windows.

I have QualCoder 3.7 (ARM64 build) installed and VLC 3.0.21 (ARM64), both running natively on an M1 Mac. VLC is installed in the default location (/Applications/VLC.app), and there is only one version installed. Despite this, whenever I try to open an audio or video file, QualCoder shows the message:

“VLC is not installed. Cannot code audio/video files.”

I gave both apps Full Disk Access, but the issue persists. A colleague tried on ther Mac but had the same issue.

If you have any suggestions we’d be very grateful.

This can be tricky to fix. First there are 2 "bit" versions of VLC a 32 bit version and a 64 bit version.
Make sure its the 64 bit version that you have installed. I guess ARM64 is 64 bit

I also see in VLC download there is a VLC, and there is a VLC (Apple silicone), can you try the other type ? I dont know what difference there is

Thank you for your help! Yes ARM64 should be the 64 bit, and also the VLC I have installed is 64 bit.

OK. I am not sure what else to suggest at the moment. It is looking for VLC, but looking in the wrong spot.

Installing it through homebrew rather than downloading manually solved it for me on Mac OS.
