integrate code from stafano sala

Stafano Sala migrated parts of the ncid code database from keras to pythorch; Doris did fork his work and is now working through it; not clear yet how to integrate his changes/extensions into the main ncid codebase;

We have an open pull request (#8) with his code changes. I requested some minor changes for better integration into the existing codebase. Most of these changes seem to be implemented now. I will add the missing bits myself and would merge his PR into this repository in the next few days.
