Is there a way to avoid the dependency and make this really standalone?

The GTK bindings are mandatory. This includes bindings for GObject, GLib and GLib-IO.

Then you don't need Gtk, you just need a small Glib.

I wonder

• do we want to rely on groups/partial baselines?
• do we want to load random dependencies we don't need?

Ideally I'd like a really standalone library.
I mean, at the end this is just a (portable) wrapper on top of the system libraries, right?
