How to run the commands from readme?

Can I run them inside the container, i.e. what ot add to .gitlab-ci.yml?

Yes, commands from README you can use in your .gitlab-ci.yml for example:

stage: some-stage
 scripts:
   - git clone https://github.com/seregaSLM/gitlab-ci-docker-systemd.git
   - cd <path-with-code>
   - pip install virtualenv
   - virtualenv venv
   - /all other from README/

The last command python main.py ... run new docker with systemd and runs all commands from the --exec-commands parameter (one by one), the commands before needs to clone systemd container and setup required dependencies for the python script.
You can create your own container with this required steps and skip them in .gitlab-ci.yml just add only python main.py ... step.
