In regards to the inop turn-coordinator, here's the response from Austin:
i would use angular velocities, line 16
all you need is PQR
nothing else
R, the third term, is yaw rate in radians per second, which is what the airplane you mention banks to
bank to the tick-marks at 3 degrees per second for a 2-minute turn
the real instrument looks at P (roll rate) to accelerate the gauge motion to anticipate the turn…
and, in a bank, of course the turn is indeed partially due to Q (pitch rate as you pull through the turn)
We'll still need to figure out exactly how to implement these values. Specifically, how to accelerate the gauge motion using P, and how to utilize the Q value once in the turn.
