all .* extensions marked as json, causing issues with Angular html files

I have a bunch of .template files for use with Angular.

vim-json is assuming these are .json files and throwing errors, highlighting the entire file and making use impossible.

Is there a way to manually ignore certain file extensions?

I just encountered the same issue opening a .template file created by the Debian Installer which is not JSON. FileExt lists multiple types for .template which are not JSON. I'd encourage not treating .template as JSON by default without additional detection logic to check file content.
