Private messages: Why have Inbox and Sent? #4

From flaskbb/flaskbb#339 by @shunju:

Sorry for being a total newbie here and already having so many issues. ;)

So what I found really odd when looking at private messages: Why is there a separate Inbox and a Sent folder when private messages are grouped by conversations anyway? I suppose that has something to do with the changes following #99?

Anyway, as it stands now, it doesn’t make sense to me – especially since Sent messages will appear both in the Sent folder as well as in the Inbox, even when there hasn’t been a reply by the other party. By contrast, received messages only appear in the Inbox.

I propose to merge Inbox and Sent, so we only have three folders: Messages/Conversations, Drafts, Trash. Then, as an option we could add filters like

  • only show conversations started by me
  • only show conversations started by someone else
  • only show conversations to which I sent the last post

The fact that I just filed my first pull request (I broke my fork in between and had to delete and re-fork, but hey: in the end it worked) shows that in principle I could try to do this.

Would you be interested?
