Rewrite path config?

Hi Sergey,

I need a rewrite on the fly like this. From outside, they need to access a file on my URL like:
https://my.domain/.well-known/theapp/some.file

However, the server backend I have is only able to serve it on the path in a subdirectory:
http://internal.ip:port/local/.well-known/theapp/some.file

I need to add the /local to the path internally without any redirects, just on the fly. Is it possible?

Tried like:

Service
    URL "^/\\.well-known/theapp/"
    Rewrite
        Regexp "^/(\\.well-known/theapp/.*)"
        Replace "/local/\\1"
    End
    BackEnd
        Address internal.ip
        Port port
    End
End

and

Service
    URL "^/\\.well-known/theapp/"

    Path "/.well-known/theapp/"
    SetPath "/local/.well-known/theapp/"

    BackEnd
        Address internal.ip
        Port port
    End
End

without success...

Actually I'd be even happier if I could serve that file directly from pound, just like ACME or the error files, but afaik that's not possible?

Hi Róbert,

If the backend in question serves only that URL, use the following:

Service
        Path -beg "/.well-known/theapp"
        SetPath "/local%[path]"
        Backend
               Address internal.ip
              Port port
        End
End

If it is able to service more, and you want to rewrite only that particular path, use Rewrite, like in:

Service
        Rewrite
                 Path -beg "/.well-known/theapp"
                 SetPath "/local%[path]"
        End
        ...
End

As for serving files directly from pound, it was on my todo list for some time. Since there's demand, I'll raise its priority. I'll let you know when it is available.

The backend serves many other things too, but this needs an exception.

I had a need several times to serve unique files from Pound. It was always a waste of resources to have to set up just a whole backend just for this. (Using since Aspis era)

I have implemented new backend type SendFile for serving static content from pound (commit d0e7974). Please give it a try. The new backend is documented here: https://www.gnu.org.ua/software/pound/manual/Special-Backends.html#index-SendFile.
Any feedback is most appreciated.
