Blank page after activate php open tags

Hello.
Thanks for your open source sharing
I'm trying to install forest OS
I got a debian stretch server php 5.6 mysql 5.7
After put index.php in my ftp folder, i run the browser and i got a page with some code inside. Dont like an interface.
After install routine reading i've change php open tags settings to ON and i got a blank page.
I don't know why. There is no apache logs a this time. Can you help me ?

I upload the files on my ftp
I've download the zip file at the url inside the readme file
i put in on my ftp
i've opened it with a browser (firefox)

Hi, any update on this? I followed all steps, just after setting up all info for usernames, paswords and sql stuff, it stucks on loading page and when I try to login again y just does nothing. Thanks so much in advanced.
