How to compile on Windows?

I don’t have much experiece with compliation of C programs under Windows, and no experience with SDL at all. Can you provide me with some steps for necessary tools, libraries etc. I would need to create an executable?

If you are only developing on Linux, could you provide a build guide for that? I don’t understand the provided Github build workflow (what is sonar-scanner?), and you did not create any release artifacts yet.

I'm currently working on the windows build using the mingw toolchain. I try to automate the process using the github workflow and to provide build artifacts automatically.

Build in a Linux environment is a quite simple. After checkout you can run the following commands to build the game:
mkdir build && cd build
cmake ../CMakeLists.txt
cmake --build . -j
sudo cmake --install .

You need SDL2 installed in your system to compile the game.

But I will add a more detailed README.md as soon as I find some time for it.

sonar-scanner is a static code analysis tool which searches for bugs, code duplicates, code smells and checks test coverage.

I extended the github workflow to build a windows version of the game. You can download the latest build of the main branch from:

Can you give it a try and check if it works for you?

Sorry, the file could not be found. It seems Github only stores the latest automatic build – but as this currently fails for the Windows branch of the build pipeline, there is no release to download.
I could try to build it myself because you added some build steps …

Uff. That took some doing. And in the end all that was missing was a single cmake flag.

Here are the steps for building a Windows version on Windows:

• install MinGW32 (I used the online installer with Win32 and msvcrt)
• install CMake
• cd into the repository directory and execute these commands:

cmake -G "MinGW Makefiles" -DCMAKE_TOOLCHAIN_FILE=cmake/mingw.cmake -B ./build_win32 -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release
cmake --build ./build_win32 --config Release -j
cmake --install ./build_win32 --prefix=DerClou

Without the -G parameter, cmake uses MSVC if it is installed and prepares everything for the complete MSVC buildchain. Even if I hide cl.exe everything is created in the wrong way. More details can be found here on Stackoverflow. (Contrary to the comments, the build itself using cmake was successful.)

The game itself starts, plays sound and speech and seems to be working properly. Maybe a bit … slow/sluggish in the reactions? Could be me. I will test-play further tomorrow.
Nice thing that speech and music from the CD version are working, though I’m missing the classic synthesized music. Also it’s much too loud for my taste, I always reduce music volume to 30% or so. Maybe there could be a soft volume setting in cosp.cfg, from 0 to 100? (speech/sound and music seperately would be great).

All in all, very nice work, thanks a lot! Also to the developers from COSP, of course.

I added all config options to the cosp.cfg a few days ago. You can also control the volume for each channel (sound/music/voice) in game using the keys INS/DEL, HOME/END, PAGE_UP/PAGE_DOWN.
Music is still synthesized. There is no recorded music in the AUDIO folder.

Strange, I had the impression the music was a bit different as I remember.

Thanks for the configuration options. Also I didn’t know about the volume control keys. These are quite useful.
