https://min.io/ You can use min.io to implement this and test without needing an "official" S3 backend. It's fully API compatible with S3.

If you want to take a look at it, go for it. The objective is for the -f flag to accept either a local file path and open that file or, if the path starts with s3:// to pull the object down from S3.
