Is this causing a problem somewhere? What OS and what version of PHP are you seeing an issue?

I wonder if there is a windows code point that maps each of the Greek characters to an ASCII character, like G and g. It’s possible that pressing the character labeled Γ on their keyboard uses the ascii character instead of the Unicode character. Pure speculation on my part.
