frequent pop up of wsl installer via command prompt

I have installed docker and later I knew that it is for linux os and soon I deleted it too, but when ever i open cmd a message pops which tells to click any button to download wsl

someone help me it is too frustrating...

How to collect WSL logs

Download and execute collect-wsl-logs.ps1 in an administrative powershell prompt:

Invoke-WebRequest -UseBasicParsing "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/microsoft/WSL/master/diagnostics/collect-wsl-logs.ps1" -OutFile collect-wsl-logs.ps1
Set-ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Scope Process -Force
.\collect-wsl-logs.ps1

The script will output the path of the log file once done.

If this is a networking issue, please use .\collect-wsl-logs.ps1 -LogProfile networking instead, following the instructions in Collect WSL logs for networking issues

Once completed please upload the output files to this GitHub issue.

@rohithsuresh21: Do you still have docker installed ? This is most likely because docker is trying to use WSL in the background. Do you still see this if you remove docker ?

Otherwise, if you look at the process tree you should be able to see where this process is coming from

Hi @rohithsuresh21, Please check in the Windows terminal settings if the default configuration is set to wsl or any wsl distro. If so, please change it back to powershell or cmd.

the terminal pop up does happens when I open vs code terminal it does not happens when I open cmd normally (wsl installation pop up thing does not show)

I found that it pops only when I open vs code editor

Ok I see. Is the WSL plugin enabled in vscode ? I could see that trying to call into wsl.exe
