It's been three years since the last commit to this repository. What became of this research project? Has it been brought into WebRender? Was it abandoned? Did it successfully demonstrate a speedup? Did it conclude that no such speedup was feasible?

I'll be interested too 😁 I plan something similar for jpegxl, if the developer could enlight us about the pros and cons, the dos and don'ts, based on his experience? Especially, I don't understand fully how it can alleviate the work of the rendering engine (as it seems suggested in the README)
