[Bug]: macOS files/folders disappearing in Finder when using VFS

Bug description

We're running Nextcloud via Hetzner's StorageShare which is version 30.0.6. The client feature the latest 3.16.0 desktop app running on macOS Sequoia 15.3.1. We frequently encounter the issue that double-clicking a file in Finder makes it disappear from view. So somehow the VFS-provider seems to fail.

We notice that sync seems to be stuck when this happens and a quick disable/enable Enable virtual files usually remedies the issue.

I can provide a debug archive if needed but I'm not posting it here because of sensitive information contained.

Steps to reproduce

We are unable to reliably reproduce the issue but it happens frequently on different folders/files. In prinziple just double click on a file/folder in Finder that is part of VFS.

Expected behavior

VFS-provider works reliably.

I am also experiencing this issue and can reproduce it pretty reliably on my Macbook Pro by putting it to sleep (manually or closing the lid).

After waking the system again, the disappearing files issue occurs for me and can only be corrected by toggling the "Enable virtual files" option as mentioned by @alexanderharm.

I've the same issue and same system details as @HeyRay2. I've also this issue on M2 mini Pro Sequoia 15.3.2. On status bar the icon and hover text is "sync done"

But in settings it is keeping "syncing" forever

same issue here in 3.16.3 on macos 15.4.

The workaround with disable/enable works.

I can confirm the same happen(ed) on 3.16.4 (just upgraded to .5 as I write this) on a frequent basis. Disabling and re-enabling, however, causes some/all unsynced files to get deleted, so watch out when using this workaround!

Workaround also works for me, but there is indeed a caveat here.

I'm a Owncloud/Nextcloud user since 8 years. These kind of unfixed bug s(open since 6 month) are the exact reason, why people turn away from it in the end. This bug has removed some files in my case, which I have to creat again. Any ideas how these type of errors and most importantly the fix of it, could be handled better? I'm mean some people would litterlay pay money to get this fixed asap. Maybe nextcloud should start a pay per bug businnes model ;)
