Starting April 1, 2025, ... Unauthenticated users and users with a free Personal account have the following pull limits:
Unauthenticated users: 10 pulls/hour
Authenticated users with a free account: 100 pulls/hour

For NGINX Official Images to be published to alternative registries or docs to be updated to refer to existing official alternatives.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Pay for Docker subscription or reducing container update checking rates.

The images are already on Public ECR, but I agree that adding ghcr.io would be ideal

@AdrienPoupa , I just got this error on public.ecr.aws/nginx/nginx:1.28-alpine3.21-slim while using TestContainers:

From what I could guess, the Dockerfile in question is pointing to docker hub as default:

FROM alpine:%%ALPINE_VERSION%%

It is not listing this

FROM public.ecr.aws/docker/library/alpine:%%ALPINE_VERSION%%

as suggested by Official Alpine ECR page

The public.ecr.aws mirror is, well, a mirror of the images. It does not rewrite any of the Dockerfiles.

I'm not sure why your build process (why is it even there, if you're pulling an nginx image from AWS ECR) is pulling alpine:3.17 though, as the tag clearly states alpine3.21.

Well, thanks for the reply! I messed the analysis (and even convinced my colleagues that I was right).

I got a somewhat plausible reason of why it is pulling alpine:3.17 and it has nothing to do with using nginx ECR image but with bad use of test containers itself.
