Closed openedx/openedx-app-android#446 as it had conflicts and was partially superseded by openedx/openedx-app-android#473
The app still has some synchronous getCourseStructure(...) and getCourseStructureFromCache(...) call sites, so should be reviewed, but this PR should be closed, new one opened to finish the scope of change in this PR.
