We would like to propose a draft specification as a starting point for the group’s work on a unified credential presentation protocol.
The proposal is a CBOR-based protocol covering the full presentation request/response lifecycle, designed from the ground up to satisfy the requirements of both ISO/IEC 18013-5 (2nd edition) and OpenID for Verifiable Presentations. It supports mso_mdoc, vc+sd-jwt, and ZKP credential formats, and covers engagement and transmission channels from both specifications.
The draft includes:
- A request structure with scenario-level and credential-level organization
- Application-layer response encryption with multi-backend routing
- Full CDDL definitions of the protocol
We are proposing this as a concrete starting point to structure the group’s discussion. We are happy to walk through it on a call or present it at the next meeting.
