A .env file is a simple text file that contains environment variables used by Docker Compose to configure your containers. In our architecture, it serves as the complete configuration center for your project. It allows you to:
- ✅ Centralize ALL project-specific settings in one place
- ✅ Separate configuration from template code
- ✅ Use different values per project without modifying templates
- ✅ Keep sensitive data out of version control
- ✅ Make configuration explicit and readable
- ✅ Customize container names, versions, and behavior per project
