Creating ZIM Illustrations (icons) #76

If we want to improve quality of ZIM illustrations, as we did for other metadata, some directions/guidelines about how to go from Source Project's logo to a good ZIM illustration is important.

This may include tools and resources: while we may request @siemsie's assistance for high profile ZIMs, this should be easy enough to follow for regular Zimfarm editors to follow.

Another layer would be harmonizing, if not style at least format so that a ZIM listing stays coherent/clean.
Maybe some templates in addition to the guidelines would help.

If it weren't for the occasional missing words, I'd have bet this comment was from someone else 🤣

This all only focuses on the storing/input of the image. What about the making of it? Whenever I have to make an icon or illustration, I always need to save next to it the URL of the original icon I used. That's important information. Maybe putting it in a comment is enough. If it goes beyond resizing, one may want to keep the source file used. If I spend 30mn on tweaking an icon, I would want to keep it… where ? In the drive and we're back to its limitations.

Not that this is of importance for this ticket but I believe we should have guidelines for ZIM icons ; maybe even accompanying templates. An online resize/crop tool will help go from Online picture to ZIM icon easily but if quality matters that won't be enough.

Very valid comment, but to me this goes bayond what I had in mind in this issue. I would recommend to open a dedicated issue to better keep traces of the creation process of the "end-product". Or does someone has an idea to achieve already something without increasing significantly yhe complexity of this EPIC?
