User profile icons are invalid once the users change them

Why not allowing the users change their profile icons through the website itself? Sounds like a waste of resources to fetch periodically for profile icons through external sources (even though most of the times the profile icons wont be changed at all, and most likely the users dont really care about their profile icons on bliptext at all)

We don't store the profile pictures to begin with, so implementing that would require S3.

Periodically fetching the profile pictures involves getting the new URLs.

That being said, this issue has been put on hold because it's not a high priority.

Oh alright. You could then implement the following system:

• Check for pfp updates only if the user actually logs in into the page
• Add some kind of 7 days timeout per automatic check in order to avoid fetching for a pfp like 10 times a day (if the user logs in 10 times a day on the website for example)
• Add a sync button on their profile settings in case the user wants to sync their pfp prior the automatic check
  Should not be really hard of a system. Would be glad to help you implementing that if you want help once I find some spare time :)

I handle this with Vocal by caching the URL itself with the base64 data and updating the avatar URL when they login. This way I can check if its the same based on the user document, and if so skip fetching it altogether. Pretty easy solution imo
