Getting error: "Failed to load module "appmenu-gtk-module"

installed prereqs using apt, and plotinus using cmake.
added GTK3_MODULES=[/usr/local/lib/libplotinus.so] to /etc/environment

Using Linux Mint Tara 19, xfce 4.12

Apparently your system already has a GTK+ module set, whose path is overridden by the environment variable.

The solution is to remove the line from /etc/environment, then check the value of GTK3_MODULES, then set GTK3_MODULES to contain both Plotinus and whatever other path was already there by default.

Note also that there should not be any square brackets around the path.
