The "Pyrite" technology is required by Chemical science pack, Mycology - Stage 3, Vatbrains research boost - Stage 1, and Water invertebrates - Stage 2, despite no recipes unlocked by those technologies requiring pyrite, and iron oxide and acid gas being accessible prior.
