Apparent write issues while (static) patching

This happens on a fresh install, and may be related to it being on an external drive. There are QIODevice open errors we should be bubbling up to the user.

I think we should also be a bit smart about patching WRT the backup EXE. I don't have any solid plans on that at the moment.
