Generate DOI for data products

I finally got to play with the EZID API provided by UCSD to generate DOIs.

It is really easy, Gemini took 2 minutes to implement this:

Well, maybe too easy...it uses username and password...

The test record is then visible on the ezid website:

https://ezid.cdlib.org/id/doi:10.5072/FK2/TESTDOI123

This is owned by the simons_observatory account.

Next I want to experiment with the hierachical DOIs.

@JBorrow ok, it was pretty easy to implement the versioned DOI as well, see:

Basically the 3 DOIs (the canonical and 2 versions) have these metadata:

Which unfortunately is not displayed in the HTML page but just available in the EZID API.

Is it expected that your test DOI has gone away now? I guess it was on the test system?

These versioning things are very useful, I think it also makes sense for us to explore the relationship ones (e.g. where we have a DOI for a large collection and then individual DOIs for data products inside that).

I guess we want to understand in what situation we would want these versioned DOIs to be generated. Probably not for a new data release, but in cases where we found an issue with the data that needed to be fixed?
