Creating and calling variables not possible with #@set

Creating variable with the instruction #@set variableName theValue does not work.
i succeeded with #@variableName theValue to create a variable (but I can't find where it is saved).
else calling a variable is also not possible.

can you give more instructions, for how to creating and calling variables?

Hi @Vlaamsewebwinkel! By default, botscripten does not come with any directives. Botscripten is optimized for authoring the data side of conversations in Twine without dictating any runtime information. From the readme:

There is no set definition for directives, as adding a directive to Botscripten would require every external parser to also support it. This is also why Botscripten is so light- there's almost no parsing being done of the individual Passages.

While I can't prescribe what the #@set directive means to you, what you probably want to do is update a database, cookie, or other persisted store with the variable (see the node.js version).

When using node.js and the default parse method you'll find the directives extracted on every passage object, with the typing { name: string, content: string }[]. (https://github.com/jakobo/botscripten/blob/master/src/common/extractDirectives.js)

When using the preview within Twine2 or exported story html files you can select show directives to see which directives are associated with a story node. These directives cannot be registered in the browser; it would open up some security concerns that just don't make sense for the library.
