UMass geolocator suggest

The UMass geolocator does not return great search results (for suggestions). It seems to only match the first part of the first word, or any whole words after that. The result is that if you for example start typing in "Library" like: Librar the main library will not be returned since the name is actually DuBois Library with "library" not as the first word.

Is there any way to make the search better in this respect, that way someone can start typing library and actually see results for the library?

Does the world geocoder behave better? When I test, it behaves similarly (only finding the first word), but the issue with testing the world geocoder is that there are always going to be results for the first word, so this may be an impossible test to run -- the reason I ask is just because I believe that this is Esri's search logic and not a configurable setting in the locator itself. I'll double-check with Sasha, and ask to open a ticket with Esri, but if I'm right I don't have high hopes for their changing it.

And charmingly, I see that * librar * (without the spaces, I just can't figure out how to get markdown to behave) is no better. Urg.

I thought the world geolocator did work better until you said that and I checked, I think I was typing in whole words which of course works when searching not the first word.

It would be great to open a ticket with Esri like you said if this is not configurable on the backend

I've asked Sasha to open a ticket so I expect that'll happen today and we should hear something probably this week.

If Esri never solves this problem, there is a way to sidestep it by directly querying the buildings feature layer

Although it seems like there may be locations included in the geolocator that are not just buildings, because I can't find the "Libraries" building that shows up in the geolocator when searching for "librar", and the latitude and longitude leads to the FAC.

I believe there are several datasets in addition to buildings baked into the geolocator, yes (dining areas, off the top of my head, would be another one). I know Sasha is looking into this too, so I expect we'll hear more when he returns next week.
