Here's what I found while triaging this issue:

Warp currently supports manual and directory-based tab colors, but the available picker is limited to six standard colors and there is no separate active-tab highlight color setting. This looks like a valid enhancement request rather than a bug.

Triage summary

Codebase findings

• The shared tab color picker currently uses a fixed six-color ANSI palette (red, green, yellow, blue, magenta, cyan) through TAB_COLOR_OPTIONS in app/src/ui_components/color_dot.rs.
• Manual tab colors, tab-group colors, and directory tab colors reuse that picker path in app/src/tab.rs and app/src/settings_view/appearance_page.rs.
• Directory-based tab colors are persisted under appearance.tabs.directory_tab_colors in app/src/workspace/tab_settings.rs.
• The existing appearance.tabs.preserve_active_tab_color setting preserves active tab color behavior, but it does not provide a separate configurable active-tab highlight color.

Routing

This should route primarily to area:window-tabs-panes, with area:settings-keybindings because the request includes a Settings UI option. I included needs-mocks because expanding from six colors to 20-30 options and defining active-tab color behavior likely needs product/design decisions around palette size, theme integration, contrast, and how the active state interacts with manual, group, and directory colors.
