UART Question

Hi - Great work!

Looking to give this a try. Wondering if the dongle UART is TTL or RS232?

Also, do you know if there are other motors controllers that use the same protocol? I was playing with a different GE washer motor/controller and looks like the protocol might be totally different.

Hello and Thanks for your work wfang. Had this driver sitting around for a long time. purchased a UART to TTL dongle. Made up your interface and everything works perfectly. Tested the unit to 20000rpm but set it to max 140000rpm. I am running it off of my raspberry pi2. Thanks Joseph.

Hi wfang,
I compiled the gui you posted and the start and 2 direction radio buttons are greyed out. I am not understanding why they are and no very little about programing in c other that a little with arduino IDE.
I would rather run from arduino but don't know the data stream. Have you tried with arduino? Your video makes it a bit interesting because more and more washers a showing up on the side of the road and these motors running at the rpm you show can prove to be quite useful.

Hobbyjunky I had the same thing happen to me. Until you get he connection correct the radio buttons won't work. You need to make the circuit wfang2002 posted. I bought this unit off Ebay UART to TTL

Tanks, I made the one wfang2002 posted, I think there is a problem with it.
Also I discovered I am using a slight different model MCU than what he used. It is from a whirlpool front load washer like he had they just have several different models of the same washer.
