Summary

  • Verified color rebrand: Change verified/success color from green-600 (#16a34a) to emerald-500 (#10b981) across all rendering paths (React, vanilla JS CDN, static HTML, CSS tokens)
  • Token routing: Bracket overlay colors in CitationAnnotationOverlay now resolve through var(--dc-verified) / var(--dc-partial) / var(--dc-destructive) instead of hardcoded constants, so a single host override propagates to brackets, indicators, and borders
  • Caret indicator simplification: Remove inverted active state (white-on-dark when open); caret stays muted gray in all non-error states. Block variant caret uses ChevronDownIcon instead of status-colored check/X icons
  • Gesture improvements: Require Ctrl/pinch for zoom in expanded-page view; use grabbing cursor instead of move during drag
  • Performance: Hoist bracket color var() strings to module-level constants (avoids per-render allocation at 60fps); memoize overlayHighlightColor derivation
  • Consistency: Footnote and popover status classes use semantic text-dc-* tokens instead of raw Tailwind color classes
  • Exports: Add SIGNAL_GREEN / SIGNAL_GREEN_DARK to deepcitation/drawing public API; deprecate SIGNAL_BLUE / SIGNAL_BLUE_DARK
  • Docs: Update BRANDING.md, agent branding doc, and styling guide to reflect new color values

Test plan

  • 1493 tests pass (bun run test), 0 failures
  • Lint clean (bun run lint) — 6 pre-existing warnings, 0 errors
  • Verify verified citation indicators render emerald-500 in light mode, emerald-400 in dark mode
  • Verify bracket overlays on evidence images use the correct emerald color
  • Confirm caret indicator stays gray when popover opens (no inverted dark pill)
  • Confirm Ctrl is required for scroll-to-zoom in expanded page view
  • Override --dc-verified on :root and confirm it propagates to brackets, indicators, and quote borders

Previously the annotation brackets and VerifiedCheck icon used hardcoded
emerald hex values, so host theme overrides to --dc-verified had no effect
on them, causing color mismatch with the status dot and quote left border.

- CitationAnnotationOverlay: green bracket case now uses
  var(--dc-verified, #10b981) so it tracks the CSS token
- VerifiedCheck: swap hardcoded text-emerald-500/400 classes for
  VERIFIED_COLOR_STYLE (color: var(--dc-verified, #10b981))
- Update UrlCitationComponent test to assert on the CSS variable
  rather than the removed Tailwind class

Previously bracket colors, quote left borders, and status title text each
used different hardcoded values (hex constants, Tailwind utility classes),
so a host override to --dc-verified/--dc-partial/--dc-destructive only
partially propagated — creating visible color mismatches like green brackets
on amber partial-match citations.

Changes:
- CitationAnnotationOverlay: all bracket colors (verified/partial/error and
  secondary brackets) now resolve through var(--dc-verified), var(--dc-partial),
  var(--dc-destructive). Removes getBracketColor dependency from this file.
- EvidenceTray: derive highlightColor from getStatusFromVerification() instead
  of verification.highlightColor, which was not reliably set for partial matches
- DefaultPopoverContent: quote left border and status title text switch from
  hardcoded Tailwind classes (border-amber-500, text-green-700, etc.) to
  border-dc-* and text-dc-* tokens

A single --dc-verified override now consistently colors the bracket, quote
border, status dot, and checkmark icon together.

The caret now stays slate-500 regardless of open state, reducing visual

Replace check/x icons with a neutral chevron-down for the caret
indicator variant. Remove the inverted dark-background styling when the
popover is open so the pill stays gray in all non-error states. Update
tests to match. Add search-result-icon color rule to docs theme.

Bug: Import statements appear after const declarations in CitationAnnotationOverlay.tsx. The three hoisted bracket color constants (VERIFIED_BRACKET_COLOR, PARTIAL_BRACKET_COLOR, ERROR_BRACKET_COLOR) are placed in the file before the remaining import statements (useTranslation, CloseIcon, toPercentRect). Module-level const declarations must not appear before import statements. While JS engines hoist imports at runtime, this ordering violates ES module convention and will be flagged by ESLints import/first rule. Move all import statements to the top of the file, above the hoisted constants.
