Upgrading the base image to Ubuntu 26.04 will break the Docker build due to several critical compatibility issues:
- Removal of
apt-key: In Ubuntu 26.04, the legacyapt-keyutility has been completely removed. The Dockerfile currently usesapt-key addin multiple places (lines 74, 102, and 253) to add GPG keys for Docker, Microsoft SQL Server, and Google Chrome. These steps will fail withapt-key: command not found. - Compilation of Older Python Versions: Building older Python versions (such as 3.7, 3.8, and 3.9) from source on Ubuntu 26.04 will fail because these older Python versions do not support the newer OpenSSL 3.x/3.5+ libraries and modern GCC versions included in Ubuntu 26.04 without extensive patching.
It is recommended to revert this upgrade and keep the base image at ubuntu:24.04 until the Dockerfile's repository key management is modernized (using /etc/apt/keyrings and signed-by) and the compatibility of building legacy Python versions is addressed.
