On the GitHub page, look for a section called Releases or find a downloadable file ending with
.exe. This is the program installer or portable app for Windows. -
Click the file name to start downloading. Save it in a folder you can easily find, like your Desktop or Downloads folder.

Once the file has downloaded, double-click it to start the installation process. If it’s just an
.exefile without an installer, double-clicking will launch the app directly. -
Follow any on-screen prompts if the installer shows up. Most steps involve clicking “Next” or “Accept” on license agreements.

After installation, look for the ClaudeHistoryMCP icon on your desktop or in your Start menu.

Open ClaudeHistoryMCP by double-clicking its icon.

The MCP server starts automatically and listens on your PC. It collects conversations from Claude Code client apps.

Use the search box to enter keywords or phrases to find specific parts of your chat history.

Conversations are grouped by date and session. Click a session to view all messages inside it.

By default, ClaudeHistoryMCP stores conversation data in the folder:
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\ClaudeHistoryMCP\data
Log files and settings can be found in:
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\ClaudeHistoryMCP\logs
These folders hold the data that powers the search and storage.
- If the program does not start: check that your Windows version matches requirements.
- If the server fails to run, restart your computer and try again.
- Make sure no other application is blocking the port used by ClaudeHistoryMCP (usually port 8080).
- Restart ClaudeHistoryMCP after a failed attempt.
